Little Tike Hike

Families with young learners are invited to hit the trails for a self-guided hike full of fun nature learning at Hitchcock Nature Center available during regular park hours of 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. July 4th - 13th. As you enjoy the sights & sounds along Badger Ridge Trail you will spot trail activities posted along your route that are designed to help learners age 3 to 5 experience nature in a new way. Nature learning activities are posted along a .3 mile stretch of trail for your enjoyment. This is an "out & back" hike, once you reach the end of the trail you turn around & head back to the trailhead, making a .6 mile round-trip hike.

Wild Wanderers Camp at Hitchcock

8:00AM to 1:00PM | Hitchcock Nature Center · Honey Creek

Students entering 5th & 6th Grade will expand their outdoor knowledge during Wild Wanderers!

Campers will continue growing their outdoor survival skills through archery lessons, advanced shelter building, & fire building during this hands-on camp. Wild Wanderers camp is designed for unaccompanied campers entering 5th & 6th grade.

The camp will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center in Honey Creek, IA & will be from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. July 14th through 16th.

The cost for this three-day camp is $75.00 per camper & includes park admission, snack, & camp materials. Campers will need to provide a sack lunch for each day of camp. We also request campers bring a refillable water bottle, sunblock & insect repellent, also recommended are a hat, sunglasses, long pants, & closed-toe shoes.

Online pre-registration is required as space is limited.

Ancient Pendant & Stone Age Beads

Join Naturalist & experienced Native Earth Skills practitioner Dustin Clayton as he introduces you to the art & craft of the prehistoric jeweler. This unique event will explore natural materials & ethical interaction with the landscape during a guided hike through Iowa's beautiful Loess Hills followed by a demonstration of jewelry making techniques & styles.

This program is being presented as part of our adult education programming, participants must be 16 & over. The cost for this program is $10.00 per person & includes park admission. Online pre-registration is required by Wednesday, July 15th as space is limited.

Wild Seekers Camp at Arrowhead Park

Students entering 3rd & 4th Grade will enjoy some fun on the water during Wild Seekers!

Campers will head out on the lake to continue building their canoe & water safety skills, head to the archery range, & expand their outdoor knowledge through hikes & outdoor activities. Wild Seekers camp is designed for unaccompanied campers entering 3rd & 4th grade.

The camp will be held at Arrowhead Park in Neola, IA & will be from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. July 21st through 23rd.

The cost for this three-day camp is $75.00 per camper & includes park admission, snack, & camp materials. Campers will need to provide a sack lunch for each day of camp. We also request campers bring a refillable water bottle, sunblock & insect repellent, also recommended are a hat, sunglasses, long pants, & closed-toe shoes.

Students entering 1st & 2nd Grade are invited to join us for a wet & wild time during Wild Ones at Arrowhead Park.

Campers will explore this unique aquatic habitat as they enjoy canoeing, pond dipping, water games & much more. Wild One's camp is designed for unaccompanied campers entering 1st & 2nd grade.

The camp will be held at Arrowhead Park in Neola, IA & will be from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. July 28th through 30th.

The cost for this three-day camp is $75.00 per camper & includes park admission, snack, & camp materials. Campers will need to provide a sack lunch for each day of camp. We also request campers bring a refillable water bottle, sunblock & insect repellent, also recommended are a hat, sunglasses, long pants, & closed-toe shoes. Carson Community Rodeo Kickoff Dinner

Carson Community Rodeo

Come down to enjoy the 43rd annual Carson Community Rodeo! The gates will open at 6 p.m. and the rodeo will begin at 8 p.m. 

$20 for an adult general admission ticket, $15 if purchased in advance. 

$5 for a child general admission ticket.

Spots will be marked on the ground 6 feet apart for social distancing, extra hand sanitizer stations will be available, and signs will be hung at the entrance reminding people not to attend if they have been sick, feel sick, or have come in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Attendees are encouraged to wear masks.

Stick around and enjoy the street dance afterward!

August Hitch Hike

Join us for the fourth hike in the 2020 Hitch Hike series. Meet up with the group at the Old Lincoln Highway Deck at the Hitchcock Nature Center Campground to begin this walk down the Hohneke Trail to Oak Avenue and the Bunker Hill Loop. Explore the northern section of the park and view a remnant of the original Old Lincoln Highway.

Learn to identify monarch butterflies & safely capture, tag, & release them as they pass through our area on their way to Mexico during their annual migration. We will also take this opportunity to introduce you to the Hitchcock HawkWatch, an annual science project held at Hitchcock Nature Center. Learn more about migrating species of raptors & our intrepid team of volunteers that spend fall & early winter watching, counting, & reporting them.

Two sessions of this program are offered. Cost is $3.00 per child age 3 & over with accompanying adults free. Participants must register online at www.pottcoconservation.com for the session of their choice.

Barenaked Ladies: Last Summer on Earth Tour
