Hitchcock Nature Center

Lodge restrooms are open regular park hours from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. The Lodge Welcome Desk hours are as follows:

  • Monday – Wednesday – Closed
  • Thursday – Saturday – 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Sunday – 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Due to staffing, we may have to close the desk if we do not have the coverage to keep it open. Additional closures will be announced with as much advance notice as possible on our website and Facebook page. We are asking park visitors to continue to be prepared to pay at the front gate with cash or check in the event the lodge is closed.

The exhibit gallery is closed to the public and there is no access past the welcome desk at this time.

Located in the Loess Hills, Hitchcock has some of the largest remaining prairie remnants in Iowa and provides refuge for plants and animals found nowhere else in the state. The 1,268 acres are open every day of the year for hiking, camping, picnicking, bird watching, snow sledding. A 22-acre modern campground is equipped with 18 RV sites, shower house, two group tent sites, three cabins, and overlook deck. There is a fully furnished lodge for meetings, events or retreats. Attend seasonal recreation programs such as hikes, Monarch butterfly tagging, night sky viewing, HawkWatch programs, mushroom hunts, and more.
